4-18-10 - WOW! The new boats are great to say the least. The handle and fishability are exactly what we had hoped they would be and could not be happier. Can't wait to spend some more time in them. Our 35th place finish at the MWC Detroit River event was not what we had hoped it would be but none the less it was still an OK points finish so we are not complaining. We needed a couple of better fish one of the days and we could have moved up quite a bit but we just never got the right bites. That's fishing! Congrats to our good friends Dan Johnson and Larry Rhoades on their sixth place finish. Job well done! Added some pictures to the Fishing Activities page from the NPAA kids clinic and to the Fish page. Check out the blade on that spinner, pretty neat one from Dutch Fork.
Had a couple of people ask for some details from our prefishing adventures and some of the thought processes that go into that. Our first day of fishing was Sunday the 11th. We had some friends join us for prefishing and caught fish fairly well down by Luna Pier. Nothing especially large but a good start none the less. Dan fished Tuesday with Keith from Dutch Fork Custom Lures and were limited to the river because of the strong east winds. It was tough day for them. Wednesday Dan was on the lake with Keith while Matt fished by himself. Both boats caught fish and Matt found some better quality fish that looked to be the right ones for the tournament. Thursday Rob fished with Matt while Dan was by himself. Dan had a good day while Matt just never could get the fish going very well. Friday was back to the river as Dan went with Larry and Dan J. while Matt and Frank drove up from Port Clinton to fish with Matt. Unfortunately Matt's string of bad days continued while the other boat had a pretty good day on the river.
This was a very interesting prefishing as there were daily weather forecast changes that had us wondering where we should be spending our time prefishing and the water color was changing and causing the fish to move with it so it was a challenge to stay on the fish on the lake. The ultra clean water of the river also took handlining out of the question so that was not a good thing for us. All in all not our best tournament by any means but that is how it goes.
Below is a picture of our home away from home for the last week.
