Matt and Dan joined up in 2002 for their first team tournament.  They found local success pretty quickly with a Team of the Year title in 2003, just their second year fishing together.  In 2004 they made the jump up to the Masters Walleye Circuit to participate in the new East Division.  Matt and Dan are the only team that has fished every MWC East division tournament since its inception.

The jump to the national tournaments proved to have challenges as the level of competition was higher.  The new locations also added to the challenge since they required techniques the team was not familiar with.  Through hard work and determination the finishes started to improve with top ten finishes and qualifying for championships.  The accomplishments really started to show in 2007 with a third place finish in the MWC overall Team of the Year, followed up in 2008 with a second place finish for the same award.  In 2009 they were able to continue their progression of becoming the top team in the country by taking the MWC Team of the Year award.  They have also recorded four consecutive top ten championship finishes beginning in 2006.

Realizing the goal they had set in March during a promotional appearance, Davis and Gies also took the top spot at the 2009 MWC World Walleye Championship in October on Lake Erie.  This "sweep" of the top two MWC awards has only been accomplished one other time in the 25 year history of the organization.  Matt and Dan look forward to the opportunities that such an accomplishment present them and are working hard to maximize that exposure for the partners they represent.
